  • Certain bags of granola have been recalled nationwide due to Salmonella contamination.
  • The recalled product is Lacnola Lactation Granola, designed for breastfeeding mothers.
  • If you have the granola, throw it away, request a refund, and monitor for Salmonella symptoms.

Certain bags of granola have been recalled nationwide because they may be contaminated with Salmonella, the Food and Drug Administration announced last week.1

The Hampton Grocers, Inc. recalled 8-ounce bags of its Lacnola Lactation Granola after receiving notice that a product from one of its ingredient suppliers tested positive for Salmonella. That product contained organic moringa powder, which was also used in the Lacnola Lactation Granola.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the granola, but Salmonella can cause serious foodborne illness, and in some cases may even be fatal.

What You Should Do

If you have the recalled granola, throw it away and request a refund. You should also monitor for symptoms of Salmonella, including fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, which may be bloody.

Salmonella can also cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Seek medical attention if you or a loved one experience signs of a severe infection, such as:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
  • Signs of dehydration, such as not peeing much, dry mouth and throat, and feeling dizzy when standing up
