  • More than 3 million eye drop bottles were recalled nationwide due to potential sterility issues across many store-brand products.
  • FDA labeled it Class II, meaning serious health risks are unlikely and continued use may be acceptable unless advised otherwise.
  • Eight product types and many brands affected; consumers should check lot details and consult a healthcare provider if concerned.

Millions of bottles of eye drops have been recalled over concerns that they may not be sterile, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced earlier this week. On March 3, K.C. Pharmaceuticals, Inc. voluntarily recalled more than three million eye drop products sold under various brand names and distributed to stores like Walgreens, CVS, and Kroger nationwide.1

In its notice, the FDA designated the recall as “Class II,” meaning the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

Identifying the Recalled Eye Drops

Eight types of eye drops were recalled. They can be identified by brand or distributor name, Universal Product Code (UPC) or National Drug Code (NDC) numbers, and lot codes or expiration dates.1
