- The blueberries may contain Listeria, a pathogen that can cause serious foodborne illness.
- The recall has been given the highest risk level, Class I.
More than 55,000 pounds of frozen blueberries have been recalled in four states and Canada, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Oregon Potato Company LLC initially recalled the blueberries on Feb. 12 due to possible contamination of Listeria, a rare but potentially deadly cause of foodborne illness. On Feb. 24, the FDA gave the recall the highest risk level, Class I.12
Which Blueberries Were Recalled?
The recall affects 55,689 pounds of individually quick frozen (IQF) blueberries sold in bulk in 30-lb. cases and 1,400-lb. totes. See the FDA’s report for additional product information, including lot codes and expiration dates.
The blueberries were distributed in Michigan, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, and Canada. The FDA noted that the products were not sold to consumers in stores, but it didn’t specify where the blueberries were sold.
What You Should Do
There’s no need to check your freezer for the recalled blueberries, since they were not sold in stores. If you’re concerned about Listeria, monitor for common symptoms, including fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, and seizures
