- Tops, a Northeast grocery chain, recalled peeled garlic sold at its stores in three states.
- The product wasn’t stored in cool enough temperatures, allowing for the potential growth of mold and bacteria, including botulism.
- The recall was given the highest risk level, Class I.
Peeled garlic sold at Tops stores in three northeastern states has been recalled due to improper storage, the popular supermarket chain announced this week. The garlic required temperatures of 32–37 degrees Fahrenheit, but was kept in open-air coolers that couldn’t reach that range. The recall was classified as Class I, the highest risk level, because warm conditions can promote mold and bacteria growth, including the pathogen that causes botulism.123
Which Garlic Was Recalled?
The recalled garlic has the following product information:
- Product name: Christopher Ranch Peeled Garlic
- Size: 6 oz
- UPC: 00007457410852

What You Should Do
If you shop at Tops, check your fridge for the recalled garlic, and do not use it. Tops said it would issue a full refund to customers who return the product with valid proof of purchase.
If you think you’ve consumed spoiled garlic, monitor for signs of illness, and talk to your healthcare provider if you start to feel sick. Botulism can cause vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, and diarrhea
