It’s time to check your refrigerators—more than 19 million eggs have been recalled in six states.

On July 22, the FDA announced that white and brown eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. were recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.1

Salmonella can cause serious foodborne illness, but the recall announcement did not mention any infections associated with the eggs.

Which Eggs Were Recalled?

The recalled eggs were available to people in six states—Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Mississippi—and sold at specific stores:

• Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana
• Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi
• Foodservice providers and retailers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana
• Other smaller retail outlets

What You Should Do

Check your fridge for the recalled eggs. If you have any, throw them out or return the carton for a refund.

If you think you consumed contaminated eggs, monitor for symptoms of Salmonella, including fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, which may be bloody.

Contact a healthcare provider if you experience any symptoms after eating potentially affected eggs.
